Over a span of 40 years, as Timucuan’s Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Newton served as guardian of the investment philosophy he was instrumental in shaping as the firm came to life. His vision for business achievement, principled management, intellectual pursuit, and investment performance is embodied in the Timucuan culture today. Prior to Timucuan’s founding in 1981, Mr. Newton served as Chairman of Kern County Refinery, President of Charter Oil Company, and President of Southern Stores, Inc. He began his business career in Booz Allen & Hamilton’s international consulting practice following graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He received a B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from Princeton University, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps, completing 47 combat missions as a B-24 command pilot in the European Theater, World War II.
